Urticaria: Conventional treatment for Urticaria
Urticaria > Conventional treatment for Urticaria Homeopathic treatment for Urticaria
Two of the most commonly used groups of conventional medicines for the treatment of Urticaria are
1. Antihistamines
2. Cortisone.
Some of the commonly prescribed antihistamines are: 1. Cetirizine (Zyrtec) 2. Fexofenadine (Allegra): 3. Desloratadine (Clarinex) 4. Loratadine (Claritin): 5. Hydroxyzine (Atarax, Vistaril) 6. Avil. There are many other brands available in many parts of the world.
Some of the other medicines used by dermatologists include ketoconazole, antibiotics, metronidazole, dapsone, deworming, etc. Oral and indictable medications are used.
Basically, the conventional treatment has antihistamine properties, whereby the medicines try to block histamine release. However, it does not prevent further release of histamine, which is fundamental to the cause of urticaria. Also, the release of histamine is controlled by immunological and genetic factors, which are not addressed by the use of antihistamines or cortisone.
It may be noted that the use of conventional medicines for urticaria is effective, but only temporarily. They have not only adverse effects but are also habit-forming.
