Nephrotic Syndrome Managed Effectively By Eliminating Dependency On Steroids With Homeopathy At Life Force
10 years and 11 months old female patient staying in Delhi, Ms. P.S. (PIN: 35203) approached Life Force Homeopathy on 14th January 2018 over. As she was residing in Delhi, her mother gave case history over the phone to Paud branch of Life Force Homeopathy on 14th January 2018.
She was a known case of Nephrotic Syndrome from the last 5 years. The symptoms of this condition started bothering her suddenly with a mild fever, edema on the body, & mild irritability. After the tests were done, it was diagnosed as Nephrotic Syndrome.
In October 2017, the patient was detected to have dengue, and, with it, an episode of the nephrotic syndrome also relapsed.
Most of the symptoms of this condition that were affecting the patient were masked due to steroid.
During the episode of nephrotic syndrome, the patient used to suffer from intense irritability, weakness, weight gain (5-6 kgs in the last 1 & 1/2 months due to steroids), swelling in the ankles or feet, swelling under the eyes, recurrent cold/cough (mild, twice/year), decrease in frequency of urine after the occurrence of the episode, and frequent urination just before the episode. The patient had turned dependent on the steroids.
The patient had a past medical history of dengue in October 2017. Also, the patient had a family medical history of TB and kidney disease.
Her USG reports showed results as below.
1.Bilateral mild increased renal sinus and cortical echotexture with minimal perinephric free fluid.
2.Mild ascites
The patient was taking the following medicines:
1.T. Prednisolone 20mg 1 tab daily TDS since 28th Nov 2017
2.Tab Lanzol 15mg(lansoprazole ) 1 tab daily OD since 28th Nov 2017
The patient was a vegetarian, but she liked eggs and had a disliking for green vegetables. Her thirst had decreased. She was experiencing profuse perspiration. Her bowels were satisfactory. Her structure was lean and tall. Her birth was normal, and all her milestones were on time.
By nature, she was stubborn and irritable. She liked the company and used to weep easily. She had the fear of ghosts. She was confident and talkative. She was a bit forgetful.
After a detailed case analysis, Dr. Shah prescribed research-based medicine to the patient. She was also advised to avoid high protein & salty foods.
Follow-Ups:
On 17th February 2018, the patient’s mother informed that, as per her doctor’s advice, she was not taking any tab of Prednisolone from the last 15 days. Her swelling on foot & under the eyes had reduced a lot. She was comfortable.
On her first follow-up on 9th March 2018, the patient’s irritability, weakness, weight, swelling under the eyes and on the ankles and feet had reduced. The frequency of her urination had increased. Her recurrent cold episodes had reduced. The patient was not taking any steroid since February 2018.
On 20th April 2018, the patient’s mother informed that the patient’s condition was good. No episode of protein leakage & cough-cold had occurred. The patient was not taking any conventional medicine since February 2018.
When the patient gave her second follow-up on 16th May 2018, her irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. No swelling was present under the eyes and ankles and feet of the patient. Also, recurrent cold episodes had reduced significantly. And, she was not taking any conventional medicine since February 2018.
Later, when the patient gave the third follow-up on 18th July 2018, the patient’s irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. Now, no swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. Also, recurrent cold episodes had reduced significantly. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
When the patient gave her fourth follow-up on 14th September 2018, she was overall 50% better. Her irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. No swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. She had a mild episode of coryza. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
On her fifth follow-up on 12th November 2018, the patient’s condition was stable as it is.
When she gave her sixth follow-up on 21st January 2019, she was overall 50% better. Her irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. No swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. She had a few mild episodes of coryza. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
Later, when the patient gave her seventh follow-up on 25th February 2019, she was overall 60% better. The patient’s irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. Her relief from the frequency of urination had improved by 60%. No swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. She had experience three mild episodes of coryza. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
When the patient gave the eighth follow-up on 24th April 2019, she was overall 70% better. She had suffered no episode of nephrotic syndrome since February 2018. Her irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. Her relief from the frequency of urination had improved by 70%. No swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. She had experienced one mild episode of coryza. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
When the patient gave her ninth follow-up on 17th May 2019, she was overall 90% better. She had not experienced an episode of nephrotic syndrome since February 2018. The patient’s irritability had reduced further. Also, her weakness and weight had reduced. Her relief from the frequency of urination had improved by 80%. No swelling was present under her eyes and ankles & feet. She had just one mild episode of coryza. She had not taken any conventional medicine since February 2018.
The patient is happy and satisfied with the treatment received at Life Force and is continuing it for further recovery.
Conclusion:
This case illustrates how homeopathy helps in the better management of Nephrotic Syndrome. Steroids dosages were reduced and then stopped, and Homeopathy treats such steroid-dependent cases of nephrotic syndrome effectively without any side-effects. Also, the tendency of the patient of suffering from the recurrent cold was reduced. Homeopathy works wonders in treating nephrotic syndrome effectively.
