65 years old yoga instructor found substantial relief in Trigeminal Neuralgia with Dr. Shah’s medicines.

Mrs. S. G. R. visited (Patient Identification Number - 16763) our Borivali clinic on 22nd August 2011. She was accompanied by her son. She complained of suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia on the right side since 15 days. She had similar episode 6 months ago, for a few days, which was treated by conventional medicines. The pain would start from maxillary area and radiate up to the temporal region. She would have 2 – 3 such severe episodes in a day, lasting for 10 – 15 minutes. The pain would be of a sharp; pricking type and would cause redness and watering of the eye. The triggering factors for pain were eating, brushing and bathing with cold water. She was taking tab gabapentin 300mg once a day since 1 week. She had used some eye drops in the past for watering of eyes, which did not help at all.

Her appetite was average with no specific liking or disliking. She was sensitive to extremes of temperature. Her urination, thirst, perspiration, bowels and sleep had no complaints.

She had attained menopause at the age of 45 years.

She had been a house wife throughout, but since 5 years had started to work as a yoga instructor as a hobby. Her husband had expired at the age of 58 years due to heart disease. She had a son who was 45 years old and working as a motorman in railways. Her daughter in law was a home maker. She had 2 grand children; a grandson aged 10 years and granddaughter aged 16 years.

She was polite and content in her life. She was sympathetic and helping in nature. She was punctual and soft disciplinarian. She was staying with son’s family. There was no major stress in her life.

She had eczema in past which was treated with homeopathy. She once had suffered from frozen shoulder.

She was prescribed research based medicine by Dr. Shah after a detailed case analysis.

She reported on 10th October with mild improvement. The pain had become unbearable since a month. She had then started with tab tegretol 100mg once a day along with tab gabapentin 300mg. The pain had been in control with these medicines. Her case was reviewed and medicines were upgraded.

She reported on 15th December with substantial improvement. She was able to stop the conventional medicines of tab tegretol and tab gabapentin. Occasionally she would get vibrations like sensation for few seconds which would subside immediately.

She reported after 6 months on 25th June. Her pain had been better for all these months. Since 15 days the pain would fluctuate. The pain would now start from side of nose and radiate to eye brows. There was mild swelling around nose. She had difficulty in opening the mouth. She had started with tab tegretol 200mg once a day since a week.

She visited on 10th August with fluctuating improvement. She would not take her tab tegretol daily but would take it as and when required without correct guidance of the doctor. She was advised to correctly taper the usage of tab tegretol. Her prescription was upgraded by Dr. Shah.

She reported on 12th October with almost complete recovery. She had stopped tab tegretol 200mg a month ago and had no episode of pain. The pain around the nose and eye brows was relieved.

She reported on 25th November with no relapse of pain since 2 months.

She is still continuing medicines as maintenance dose.
