ITP Homeopathy Treatment and Its Medicine (प्लेटलेट्स बढ़ाने की होम्योपैथिक दवा)

ITP is an auto-immune disorder of the platelets (blood cells) leading to increased bleeding and bruising on the body. It is also referred to as immune thrombocytopenic purpura.

Platelets are blood components found in blood along with red blood cells and white blood cells. Platelets are also called thrombocytes. They are produced in the bone marrow. Platelets help in the clotting of the blood. The normal range of platelets in a healthy person is from 150000 to 450000 per cubic millimeter. A person with ITP has a platelet count as low as 20000 or less.

It is more common in children than in adults. Usually, women are more likely to develop ITP.

ITP can be classified into two types:
01 Acute ITP- Children are more prone to suffer from acute ITP especially following a viral infection. It is usually a self-limiting immune response of the body and the child is fine within 2-6 months without requiring any treatment.
02 Chronic ITP- ITP which is present for 6 months or longer is termed chronic ITP. This form of ITP is more common in adults. It can trigger after a viral infection, with the use of certain drugs, during pregnancy, or due to the auto-immune response of the body.

Causes of ITP

As the name suggests, it is idiopathic i.e. of unknown cause. There is an auto-immune reaction in the body by which antibodies are formed against platelets. These antibodies get attached to the platelets and flow into the bloodstream. Spleen, which protects the body from infection, identifies these antibodies attached to platelets as abnormal and destroys them. As a result, the platelet count gets low which results in easy bleeding and bruising on the body.

ITP may be associated in people with infections like HIV, Hepatitis C, or H pylori.

Signs and Symptoms of ITP

Generally, an individual with ITP may be symptom-free. But when the platelet count gets significantly low, the signs and symptoms observed are:

01 Pinpoint bleeding spots (petechiae) on skin

02 Easy bruising (purpura) on the skin and mucous membranes

03 Bleeding from the nose

04 Bleeding from gums

05 Heavy menstruation

06 Prolonged bleeding from cuts or injuries

07 Fatigue

08 Significant bleeding can lead to hematoma; lumps of blood under the skin

When the platelet count goes below 5000 then there are possibilities of bleeding in the brain and other internal organs.

Diagnosis of ITP

The diagnosis is usually made by excluding other underlying diseases or use of certain medications like Aspirin, Ibuprofen responsible for low platelet count and bleeding disorder.

A complete blood count (CBC) determines the value of platelets in the blood. In ITP, the value of RBCs and WBCs are normal and only platelet count gets low.

Tests for blood clotting time and bleeding time, where clotting time is normal and bleeding time is prolonged.

Blood Smear- To confirm the platelet count by observing the blood smear under the microscope.

Detecting antibodies associated with platelets in the blood.

Bone marrow biopsy or aspiration - This is rarely done. In ITP, the bone marrow shows a normal or greater number of megakaryocytes (an early form of platelets). The platelets are normal in the bone marrow and are destroyed in the bloodstream and in the spleen.

Splenomegaly (enlargement of the spleen) excludes the diagnosis of ITP.

Treatment of ITP

Most children and adults with mild ITP do not require any treatment. Regular platelet count monitoring is sufficient to manage ITP.

However, in children and adults with very low platelet count and significant bleeding calls for treatment.

Treatment includes

Corticosteroids- oral or intravenous injections become the first choice of treatment for conventional doctors. However, prolonged use of steroids is responsible for side effects like osteoporosis, diabetes, weight gain, and cataract.

01 Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG) in cases of severe bleeding, immunoglobulins, when given intravenously, helps in increasing the platelet count rapidly but their effect lasts only for a couple of weeks.

02 Platelet Transfusion helps in cases of emergency but is helpful for a short period as the immune response of the body destroys even the newly received donor platelets.

03 Anti-D immunoglobulin - for patients with Rh (D)-positive blood group

04 Spleenectomy in rare cases when the body is not responding to medications, removal of the spleen is done in order to prevent the destruction of platelets. Spleen is an organ that helps in protecting the body against infections so by removing the spleen the body gets more prone to catching infections.

05 Administering other immuno-suppressive drugs

Management

ITP cannot be prevented but its complications can be avoided or reduced.

Avoid medicines like ibuprofen, and aspirin that affect platelets and increase the chances of bleeding.

Avoid injuries, which can cause bleeding, and bruises.

Effective and quick management of infections.

Homeopathic treatment for Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

(ITP): The homeopathic approach to treating ITP is aimed at addressing the immune system, which is affected by this disease condition. The mechanism of action of homeopathic medicines is not understood. However, it is a common experience that homeopathy works in the cases of ITP. ITP is curable by targeting homeopathic treatment for high platelet count. Homeopathy is strongly suggested as a supportive therapy. At Life Force, we have documented several cases of ITP with substantial results.

Here is a description of some commonly used homeopathic remedies for ITP, which aid in controlling bleeding and increasing platelet levels:

  1. Crotalus horridus: Crotalus horridus homeopathy treatment for ITP low platelets is best suited for cases involving profuse bleeding, especially from the nose, gums, and other mucous membranes. The blood is dark, almost black, and non-coagulable and fails to clot properly leading to continuous oozing. The patient does have a bruising tendency with bluish-black discoloration of the skin following minor trauma. It is useful when bleeding is associated with jaundice, suggesting liver involvement or bile duct obstruction. It is indicated in cases wherein bleeding is not localized but involves multiple systems, indicating a deep-seated blood disorder.
  2. Phosphorus: Phosphorous best homeopathic medicine for helping in managing cases of ITP often with a tendency to bleed easily particularly from the nose, gums, and gastrointestinal tract, particularly when the blood is bright red, along with anxiety and weakness. It is indicated when patients have intense cravings for cold drinks which may be vomited once it warms in the stomach. It is useful for those who bruise easily, with the skin showing purplish marks even after slight pressure or injury.
  3. Secale Cor: Secale cor is suitable for cases of ITP where there is persistent bleeding with thin, watery blood, often difficult to stop and accompanied by coldness and numbness of the extremities, an icy coldness in their hands and feet, even when the rest of the body is warm. The discharges are dark and offensive indicating poor circulation. They do have gangrenous tendencies, where tissues become blackened and dead, especially in diabetics.
  4. Latrodectus Mactans: Latrodectus homeopathic medicine for ITP is indicated when there is intense excruciating pain associated with the bleeding, particularly in the chest or heart region, often with a bluish discoloration of the skin indicating poor circulation. It is useful for individuals with poor circulation, manifesting as cold extremities or numbness, especially during pain episodes. It helps in nervous tension, leading to muscle twitching or spasms, often linked to stress or fear. It is highly beneficial for those with extreme anxiety about the heart, often accompanied by palpitations and fear of an impending heart attack.
  5. Iodum: Iodum is well indicated for chronic ITP accompanied by progressive loss of weight which is often accompanied by a persistent sense of hunger, excessive bleeding from various orifices, weakness, exhaustion, and increased metabolic rate, leading to hyperactivity, restlessness, and a constant need to move. It is highly effective in managing cases of ITP, particularly in patients with a tendency towards anemia. It is useful in glandular swellings, and hardness of glands, particularly in the thyroid or lymph nodes, often with tenderness.
  6. Bothrops Lanciolatus: Bothrops are indicated in ITP homeopathy treatment for profuse bleeding with black, coagulated blood, often associated with marked swelling and bluish discoloration of the affected areas. It is indicated for profuse bleeding, especially from the nose, gums, and under the skin with a sensation of numbness and coldness in the limbs, particularly in the affected areas. ITP complaints are associated with severe headaches, often with a feeling of pressure.
