Great relief in Trigeminal Neuralgia and he could stop Tegretol (carbamazepine)
Mr. B.A. a 63-year-old (patient identification number-12625) male, resident of Kolkata was suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia from the last ten years. He was under the treatment of a neurologist and was advised to be on Tegretol (carbamazepine) CR 200 tablets twice a day.
Despite taking medicine, the pain persisted. He was then advised to increase the dose to 4 tablets daily i.e. 800 mg but still the pain persisted. He then contacted Life Force on 10 September 2009 and started our online treatment. He filled the online questionnaire giving details of his symptoms.
He was suffering from throbbing pain arising from the left side of the face; the pain would begin from the left lower eyelid and extend to the left upper jaw. The pain was worse with any movements of the jaw. He would feel distress while talking, eating, and brushing. Any activity requiring movement of jaw would increase his pain. The pain was also worse during washing mouth, bowing head, bending head to collect anything from the ground. Recently from 2-3 weeks pain the pain was “like electric shock” when he touched his hair or scalp. Pain remains as long as there is movement of jaw and on touching affected side of face and also while combing hair.
He was also suffering from hypertension from the last ten years, and it was well controlled with the conventional medicines.
He was a man of average built with normal appetite and fond of fish, and sweets. He had normal thirst and normal bowel habits and a refreshing sleep, his complaints increased in the winter.
He was a retired government employee, living with his wife, son and daughter. He was a sensitive, emotional person who suppressed his anger, keeping things in mind and thinking about them. He was sad due to his illness. He said that I have become mentally weak and sensitive and little things affected him off late. If he would get angry, then the TN pain would increase.
Dr Shah studied the case in detail and prescribed Coccinella 200 C along with his research based remedie.
On 21 December 2009, he reported 20% improvement in his pain. However he could not reduce the dose of Tegretol. If he reduced the dose, the pain would flare up. Generally in the winters, his pain was at its peak and so he was advised to wait to reduce the conventional medicines. Dr Shah upgraded his prescription.
On 2 nd March 2010, he reported 30 % reduction in the pain. The intensity and frequency had gone down. He could move about freely. There was no pain on eating or moving the jaw. Dose of Tegretol was reduced to 600mg daily. On 4 June 2010, he reported further relief. He did not have any pain for 2-3 days at a stretch. Dose of Tegretol had further reduced to 400mg daily. The pain was better by 60 %.
He reported on 23 October 2010. He did not have pain for 10-15 day intervals. He would get minor pain after a couple of weeks. He had gradually reduced the dose of Tegretol further.
Within one year of treatment he was 70% better and dependency on Tegretol was reduced from 800mg to 200mg per day. After another three months frequency and intensity of pain further reduced. He is still under our care. He is in much better health now.
He does not get major episodes of pain any longer. He still gets minor episodes of pain; however they do not affect his daily routine. He is happy and thankful to homeopathy.
