A 45 year old suffering from Trigeminal Neuralgia with severe pains, not controlled with high doses of antiepileptics.

45 years old patient Mr. A. A. (Patient Ref. No. L-6214) from Mumbai reported to the clinic with complaints of Trigeminal Neuralgia for the last 2 years. The pain would start in the lower lip and lower jaw and would radiate up the cheek to the temporal region on the left side. He would experience sharp, shooting pain that would get worse from brushing the teeth, shaving, talking, chewing and from touching the lower lip, and from shouting. His complaints had been under remission for 6 months initially but recently his complaints were not controlled even with high doses of anti-epileptics.

He was a known case of Diabetes mellitus for the last 4 years and was under regular treatment for the same.

He was an obese patient with an increased appetite and he had a marked craving for sweets, chicken, yogurt, and cottage cheese. His sleep was sound with much snoring.

The patient had a history of recurrent tonsillitis in childhood. Both his parents had Diabetes Mellitus and his mother also suffered from Ischemic Heart disease. His elder sister had suffered from breast cancer.

He was into a business that would keep him quite busy as he had to travel a lot for the same. He was easy-going and would not usually get angry except when contradicted. Whenever he would get angry, he preferred to solve the problem through communication. His anger would be short-lasting and eventually, he would calm down. He had fear of being in the dark and of being alone at night. He was fond of company. He denied having any kind of stress or worries and took life as it came.

He was on anti-diabetic medication in addition to anti-epileptic drugs for the control of trigeminal neuralgia.

Based on the above history the patient was prescribed homeopathic treatment He was asked to continue his allopathic medicine for TN along with the Homeopathic medicines. At the end of five months of treatment, the patient reported that he was completely free from the pain for the last 2 weeks. Prior to that, his pain had steadily been decreasing and he had also tapered off his allopathic medicines. He was asked to continue the medication for another month after which he was told that he would be able to discontinue the Homeopathic medicines.

This case illustrates how difficult conditions like Trigeminal Neuralgia, which do not respond to conventional medication could be effectively treated with Homeopathy.

The patient describes this in the following words:
“I had been suffering from Trigeminal neuralgia for the last 2 years and I was having severe pain for 3 months before I started Homeopathy. The pain would persist even after taking Allopathic medicines. Now I am feeling excellent and there is no pain at all in spite of stopping all painkillers. The results are really fantastic after taking Homeopathic medicines at Lifeforce. I am thankful to Dr. Shah.”

Remark: The remedy prescribed in these cases is patient-specific i.e. it has been prescribed based on the symptoms specific to the patient at that point in time. It is advisable that the patient does not indulge in any self-medication.
