Steroid-Masked Psoriasis Treated Effectively With Homeopathy
An 8-years-old girl, Ms. DAV (PIN 34511) visited Life Force along with her parents for the treatment of psoriasis in November 2017.
Her complaints had started with the dry patches on elbows and fingers which gradually turned into red scaly eruptions. The dry patches on her soles turned into hypertrophied blackish eruption. When she visited Life Force, her psoriasis was steroid-masked. She was using a Tenovate ointment (Clobetasol local steroid) for 5-6 months. There were no visible eruptions present on her elbows and fingers as she was applying steroids daily. Psoriasis affecting her soles was active. On examination, there were blackish, dry, scaly, and hypertrophied patches on her soles. The skin on her soles would crack due to excessive dryness. She would experience constant itching on her soles.
She had an associate complaint of fungal infection affecting her groins for one month.
In her family history, her mother suffered from psoriasis. Her paternal grandmother suffered from diabetes and an under-active thyroid.
She was a vegetarian and would love to eat spicy food and junk food. She would get profuse sweating all over her body, specifically on her palms and soles.
Ms. DAV was a resident of Mumbai. She was studying in 3rd standard. Her mother was a homemaker, and her father was running his own business. Her younger brother was two and a half years old. She was a very sensitive girl, who would weep easily. She would take time to mix with others. She had a fear of water.
After examining the patient, Dr. Shah analyzed the case in detail and prescribed Mezerium 30 along with research-based medicines.
In January 2018, the patient visited for a follow-up along with her parents. Her parents reported around 80% improvement in her psoriasis. The use of local steroid had reduced from daily once to 2-3 times in a month. Dr. Shah prescribed the medicine as per the follow-up of the patient.
In her recent follow-up on 17th April 2018, the patient reported 90% improvement in psoriasis. The blackish, hypertrophied, and scaly eruptions on her soles were completely better than earlier. Cracks on her soles had completely healed. The patient was absolutely free from itching. No visible eruptions were present on her any other body parts. The use of local steroid was almost stopped.
Parents were happy with the improvement. They thanked Dr. Shah for the treatment and helping their daughter to stop the use of steroids.
The patient is still continuing the medicine prescribed by Dr. Shah for a complete recovery.
Conclusion:
This case highlights that steroid-masked cases of Psoriasis can be managed effectively with the proper administration of homeopathic medicine and strategic tapering of the local steroids.
