Migraine the MISERY IN THE HEAD

migraine“One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small and the ones that mother gives you, don’t do anything at all,” this one line sums up for all migraine sufferers, this most annoying disease bothers around more than 4 million people, with at least 15 migraine days per month. Thus diminishing their quality of life. A migraine is not just about headaches it complies of several other symptoms like Nausea, vomiting, auras (light spots), sensitivity to light and sound, numbness, difficulty in speech, along with severe semi-hemispherical head pain. Sometimes, the other symptoms are more severe than a headache. Migraines can and do occur with no headache at all. One Migraine attack alone can last for eight hours, several days or even weeks.

The cause of a migraine headache is unknown. The theory is that the Migraine pain is caused by vasodilation in the cranial blood vessels (expansion of the blood vessels), while headache pain is caused by vasoconstriction (narrowing of the blood vessels). During a migraine, inflammation of the tissue surrounding the brain i.e. neurogenic inflammation exacerbates the pain. Therefore, medicine often prescribed to treat a headache, such as beta-blockers, dilate the blood vessels and therefore can make a Migraine worse. There is no single cause of migraines, but the tendency to get migraines does tend to run in families.

Migraine headache:

Migraine headaches are the result of a disturbance in the neurochemistry of the central nervous system. Migraine sufferers typically report a definite pattern to their headaches, and they can report what stimuli bring them on. Most migraine sufferers experience their first attack before the age of 20. When a migraine occurs, it means that something has altered several of the neurotransmitter-sensitive receptors located on the outside surface of the nerve cells (neurons) so that the nervous system is no longer able to constantly maintain the natural balance that the nervous system is intended to maintain.

Neurotransmitters are chemicals that nerve cells (neurons) use to communicate messages to each other. Receptors are special areas that receive these chemical messages. The key neurotransmitter in a migraine is called serotonin (often referred to in the scientific literature as 5-HT or 5-hydroxytryptophan). If something interferes with the normal functioning (production, release, receptor docking, and/or reuptake) of serotonin, that disrupts the normal functioning of the nervous system and can lead to various symptoms associated with a migraine. The severe pain associated with a migraine occurs when the mechanism that normally inhibits and/or mediates pain is disabled.

A typical migraine headache is unilateral (affecting one-half of the head) and pulsating, lasting from 4 to 72 hours; symptoms include nausea, vomiting, photophobia (increased sensitivity to light), and phonophobia (increased sensitivity to sound).

Warning signs:

The body will send you a warning when a migraine approaches. For several hours to a day before a migraine, you might sense a feeling that a migraine is coming. Feelings may include:

  • Irritability
  • Food cravings
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Mood changes

These warning signs are known as auras.

AURA of Migraine

About 1 in 4 people with a migraine receives clearer more significant hints from their body. An aura may come in the form of a visual hallucination, including blurred or tunnel vision, blind spots, and zigzag lines floating or pulsating in your field of vision.Other types of aura include numbness in the face or in the extremities, mental confusion, or difficulty speaking. Listen to your body’s “hints” of what’s to come so you can plan ahead and avoid the symptoms. You can take a pain medication or go to bed early to catch up on rest.

Types and stages:

The two main types are Migraine with aura and Migraine without aura. Then there are subtypes of Migraine with aura: Basilar-type Migraine, sporadic and familial hemiplegic Migraine, There’s also retinal Migraine; abdominal Migraine; complications of Migraine such as chronic Migraine, and more.

Triggering factors:

A migraine trigger is any factor that,on exposure or withdrawal, leads to the development of an acute migraine headache. Triggers may be categorized as behavioral, environmental, infectious, dietary, chemical, or hormonal.

In the medical literature, these factors are known as ‘precipitants. They include foods containing MSG (monosodium glutamate this is a taste additive that is often found in Chinese food preparation), pickles, fermented foods, nuts, chocolate, and red wine and dairy products.

Others: Hereditary, Stress, Fatigue, Sleep deprivation, Oral contraceptives, Sinusitis, Hormonal changes, Smoking etc.

Pain Medication:

Ironic but true. Half of chronic migraines, and as many as 25 percent of all headaches are actually “rebound” episodes triggered by the overuse of common pain medications. Medication Side Effects. Headaches are a common side effect of most medications. If you need the medication, there’s really no way of getting around the side effects.

Homeopathic Approach:

  • Homeopathy cures a migraine permanently
  • A migraine is a chronic disorder and may take few months to get cured
  • On top of that, one person’s Migraines can be dramatically different from another’s and even one person’s Migraines can vary from one to the next.
  • It is very important to understand the basic difference between getting relief and getting a cure from migraine headaches.
  • Even when the medicine is properly selected and working in the right direction, the headaches are not going to disappear in one go.
  • Initially one will see a reduction in the severity and the frequency of the headaches. This gradually over a period of time would lead to the complete cure.
  • Homeopathic philosophy does not favor the use of temporary painkillers or shortcuts for the treatment of a migraine or for that matter in any disease.
  • Homeopathy tries to go deep down into the cause of the problem and completely eradicate the tendency of a patient to have these migraine headaches now and then.
  • That is why it takes some time for the medicines to show results. They do not have a short-term or temporary effect like the allopathic painkillers.
  • On the contrary, homeopathic medicines have long term effects and work to completely cure the migraine problem. After a couple of months of homeopathic treatment for migraine headaches, patients are pleasantly surprised to experience a completely pain-free or a headache free life.

This is the beauty of Homeopathy.

  • Thus patients with a migraine now don’t have to make peace with it anymore it is very much possible to beat a beating headache forever with the help of homeopathy
