In this blog, we shall talk about some common skin diseases, which tend to co-exist in the same location on the skin. For example, any two or more of Eczema, Lichen planus, psoriasis, and lichen planus tend to appear in the same place. Medically, the treatment and the prognosis of such co-existing conditions could be a bit more difficult.

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder characterized by loss of skin pigment or defective formation of skin pigment called melanin. Factors like genetic tendency, hormonal imbalance, stress, physical trauma, consumption of some drugs which lead to decreased immunity, and extensive hormonal changes act as other causative factors for Vitiligo.

About 8% population in India and1.5% population in the world are said to suffer from Vitiligo.

Sometimes, it is seen that Vitiligo patches are affected by other diseases like Lichen Planus, Eczema, and psoriasis. Though such cases are rare at Life Force, Dr. Rajesh Shah has come across such patients.

Like Vitiligo, Psoriasis and Lichen Planus also arise because of the deranged immune system. So, when a patient of Vitiligo presents with psoriasis or Lichen Planus it suggests a great disturbance and derangement at the immunity level.

Some patches of Lichen planus may end up losing pigments, leading to a patch of vitiligo. A similar condition could occur in cases of psoriasis and eczema as well. Dr Rajesh Shah, MD, who treats all kinds of skin diseases, remarks that loss of pigment in Lichen planus could happen only if the patient has an inherent tendency to lose pigment, which is often genetically determined. This is true with most other such combinations of diseases.

What is the role of homeopathy in the treatment of the above condition?

During his long span of practice, Dr Shah has come across a few cases of Vitiligo with psoriasis, Lichen planus, and eczema. But, it is noteworthy to mention that a combination of Vitiligo and Psoriasis, Vitiligo and eczema, Vitiligo and Lichen Planus in one place are relatively more difficult to treat in comparison to the individual and single affection of the disease condition.

It is also seen that places affected by Vitiligo along with psoriasis, eczema, or Lichen Planus do not show signs of Repigmentation, even after aggressive treatment.

Psoriasis with vitiligoThese photos are of a 30-year-old gentleman suffering from Vitiligo and Psoriasis both at the same time. First, he showed symptoms of Vitiligo for 5 years and then he started developing psoriasis in the patches of Vitiligo. Such type of cases is very rare and treatment generally takes a very long time to produce results.
