The conviction to practice homoeopathy: Dr Rajesh Shah
Medivision, April, 1999
Dr Rajesh Shah is one of the very first medical practitioners to have set up an Indian medical site on the Internet. His site address is http://www.classicalhomeopathy.com and he has been involved in the study, practice, education and research in homeopathy for the last 17 years.
During this time he has introduced two new concepts the phenomenological Approach and The Concept of Facets, in the application of homeopathic science. Both have been recognized and well received. Dr Shah is the presently the president of The Foundation for homeopathic Research. He is the honorary physician and honorary lecturer at CMP Homeopathic Medical College and Mumbadevi Homeopathic hospital, from where he had graduated in 1984.
He and his wife Dr Rupal Shah edit the international journal Homeopathy Times, a small way of celebrating 200 years of homeopathy. Then, there are educational activities. Dr Rajesh Shah has spoken at seminars in Belgium, Holland, Scotland and England during last five years. In 1992, he released the first research based book on a single homeopathic remedy. My experience with Ferrum Metallicum as being parallel to Silica, Natrum-mur or Lycopodium.
Doctor Shah conduct The Clinical Training Course in Mumbai every February for three weeks for European and American homeopaths. It is a step towards advance professional training. He had started this training program, to negate the fact that Indians need to go abroad for higher education and feels that he has been successful over the last five years. Interestingly, some of the practitioners who attend Shah's course are trained medical doctors who have adopted homeopathy as a profession.
Shah finds homeopathy the best made of healing the suffering. He claims that his interest in all the areas such as the practice, research, education and the promotion of homeopathy at a global level has offered him, opportunities to grow as a person and as a professional.
Shah says that it gives great joy to see some child with a smile returned on his face when she recovers from distressing attack of asthma or an old man reporting that his benign prostate is relieved and probably surgery is avoided.
He inquires into the life-space of many patients during the lecture tours, to the extent that he can now appreciate the value of the Indian culture all the more. His worldwide exposure helps to reduce the ego-element and boosts self-confidence at the same time.
Shah reminisces back the early years of his practice when he was concerned about the allopathic doctors' attitude. In the course of time, it came to his observation that most open-minded allopaths accept the truth behind homeopathy. In fact, now he receives reference from allopathic doctors for difficult diseases.
Shah emphasizes that for any doctor what us most important is to help one's patient. He also observed that most homeopathic doctors abroad are basically allopaths (MD, MS) who adopted homeopathy as a super-specialty. Shah says that he personally believes that the medical profession in general is the noblest of all. Rarely does any other profession give one an opportunity to help the human suffering on person-to-person level.
Homeopathic medicine in particular is again a very enriching field. There is hard work and it calls for devotion. The homeopath cannot afford to be money“ minded and the rewards are in proportion to the inputs. Shah claims that homeopathy profession offers a great field for intellectual, matured and scientific minded young people. It is important that one enters into this field only with a thorough conviction.
